SI Imaging Services signs satellite-leasing deal with an undisclosed overseas customer
SI Imaging Services · Satrec Initiative
Per ZDNet Korea: a Sat-aaS contract on the 25 cm SpaceEye-T, worth tens of millions of dollars, customer undisclosed.
what happened
SI Imaging Services, a Satrec Initiative subsidiary, announced a satellite-as-a-service leasing contract with an overseas institution based on its 25-centimeter-class SpaceEye-T satellite, per ZDNet Korea and HelloDD, which report the amount as tens of millions of dollars (su-cheon-man dalleo) with both the exact value and the customer undisclosed under the contract terms. Per GIM International, it is SIIS's latest major international win in under a year; the company says it is its second such leasing deal.
why it matters
Leasing whole very-high-resolution satellites to sovereign customers, rather than selling imagery, is becoming the Korean model for competing with Airbus and Maxar: the customer gets dedicated tasking without building a program. Recurring multi-tens-of-millions leases on SpaceEye-T validate Satrec's move up from component exports to operating-class deals.
