SpaceX filed an application with the FCC on June 30 (docket SAT-LOA-20260630-00264) seeking authority for up to 100,000 Gen3 satellites in two very-low Earth orbit shells at roughly 323-327.5 km and 473-477.5 km, per Converge Digest and other outlets tracking the filing; none of this site's usual trade sources (SpaceNews, Payload, Via Satellite) had independently covered the filing as of this sweep. Reported specifications describe each satellite at roughly 2,000 kg versus 575 kg for Gen2, with higher downlink and uplink capacity and phased-array beamforming. This filing is separate from SpaceX's January 2026 filing for a one-million-satellite orbital data center constellation.
