Muon Space says it deployed the first three operational FireSat satellites for the Earth Fire Alliance's wildfire-detection constellation.
what happened
Muon Space says it deployed the first three operational satellites of the Earth Fire Alliance's FireSat constellation aboard SpaceX's Transporter-17 rideshare mission on July 7. The satellites established contact with ground operators within 120 minutes of deployment and are healthy and beginning commissioning, advancing FireSat from its Protoflight demonstration, launched on Transporter-13 in March 2025, into operational service. The company says the full constellation is planned to reach more than 50 satellites by 2030, covering the planet every 20 minutes.
why it matters
FireSat is designed to detect fires as small as a schoolyard before they grow into megafires, giving fire agencies and insurers a faster detection window than existing weather-satellite-based systems. Moving from a single Protoflight demonstrator to operational satellites turns the constellation from a technology proof into a service EO resellers and emergency-management agencies can buy into.
