Rivada signs Mercantile Space as Nepal connectivity partner
Rivada Space Networks
Rivada partnered with Nepal's Mercantile Space to deliver sovereign satellite connectivity over its planned Outernet constellation.
what happened
Rivada Space Networks and Nepal-based Mercantile Space, a subsidiary of Mercantile Communications, announced a partnership to deliver secure, sovereign satellite connectivity to enterprise and government customers in Nepal using Rivada's planned 600-satellite Outernet constellation, per Via Satellite. Mercantile Space's Amod Pratap Rana said the goal is "sovereign data connectivity, carrier ethernet resilience and a ubiquitous network." Rivada has said it plans to demonstrate first satellites in 2026 and launch the full network in 2027.
why it matters
No contract value or capacity commitment was disclosed; this is a market-entry partnership that extends Rivada's still-pre-launch Outernet sales pipeline into South Asia ahead of its planned 2027 service start, a small proof point as Rivada competes with Starlink and OneWeb/Eutelsat for underserved-market government and enterprise customers.
