Skywave adds Iridium SBD service to its industrial IoT platform
Iridium · Orbcomm
Orbcomm's Skywave will embed Iridium's Short Burst Data satellite service into its heavy-equipment IoT terminals.

what happened
Iridium and Orbcomm's Skywave announced a partnership on July 28, via PR Newswire, to embed Iridium's Short Burst Data (SBD) satellite IoT service directly into Skywave's satellite IoT terminals. The companies said it is the first time they have worked together; the combined offering targets heavy-equipment OEM customers for remote monitoring, diagnostics, predictive maintenance, and modernizing existing connected-equipment fleets, extending across satellite, cellular, and Wi-Fi networks.
why it matters
The deal adds Iridium's global LEO coverage to Skywave's existing cellular and Wi-Fi IoT orchestration layer, letting heavy-equipment OEMs sell a single connected-equipment product that works wherever their fleets operate, without building a separate Iridium integration of their own.
