The Canadian Space Agency said August 6 it will continue funding MDA Space's Canadarm3 robotic-arm program, originally built for NASA's now-canceled Gateway lunar station, and redirect the work toward lunar surface robotics operations under Artemis plus potential use on commercial low-Earth-orbit space stations, per SpaceNews and SpaceQ Media. MDA Space CEO Mike Greenley said the company is "fully committed to working with the Canadian Space Agency to get Canada on the Moon," per MDA Space's own release. SpaceNews reported the original Canadarm3 contract, awarded to MDA Space in 2024, at roughly 1 billion Canadian dollars ($717 million USD). Greenley said on MDA's Q2 earnings call, reported by Payload August 10, that Canada's Moon work will continue "full steam ahead" with the technology pivot; Canadarm3 generated $99.5 million Canadian ($71.4 million) in Q2, up 13% year over year and about a fifth of MDA's quarterly revenue. MDA's UK division separately received a pre-authorization-to-proceed contract from OHB in June for lunar-landing sensors on ESA's Argonaut Moon spacecraft, and MDA is a member of the Lunar Outpost-led consortium competing to build NASA's Artemis astronaut rover.
