Rocket Lab says first Neutron launch may slip to 2027
Rocket Lab CEO Peter Beck said Neutron's window for an end-of-year 2026 debut is narrowing and may slip to 2027.

what happened
Rocket Lab said the window for an end-of-year 2026 debut of its Neutron rocket "is narrowing" and acknowledged the first launch may slip to 2027, CEO Peter Beck said Aug. 10. The company is balancing the timing of Neutron's first launch against how quickly it can scale toward high-cadence production; a fuel tank rupture during hydrostatic pressure testing in January had already pushed the debut from mid-2026 toward late 2026.
why it matters
Neutron is Rocket Lab's bid to compete for the medium-lift launch contracts SpaceX and ULA currently dominate, and customers including Kepler have already booked dedicated flights. Another slip pushes back the point at which Rocket Lab can start proving out that business in an already-crowded medium-lift field.
