EarthDaily wins Canadian government contract for AI border monitoring
EarthDaily will lead a Canadian defense research project testing daily satellite imagery and AI for border situational awareness.

what happened
EarthDaily said Aug. 12 it was awarded a contract by Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC), funded through the Canadian Safety and Security Program, to lead the SMATAK project evaluating satellite data, AI-powered change detection and alerting tools for border monitoring, working with DRDC and the RCMP. The multi-year project is scheduled to conclude with an end-to-end demonstration in 2027.
why it matters
The contract extends EarthDaily's decade-long track record supplying Canadian defense and border-security demonstrations (following the earlier MarCOS and SBS projects) and positions its daily EarthDaily Constellation imagery as a candidate input if Canada moves from demonstration to an operational border-monitoring capability.
