Orbitworks
Orbitworks' first Altair satellite left Dubai for the US ahead of an October launch, the start of a planned 10-satellite constellation.

what happened
Emirates SkyCargo transported Altair-1, built by UAE manufacturer Orbitworks, from Dubai to Los Angeles aboard a Boeing 777 freighter ahead of an October 2026 launch. Altair-1 carries optical, infrared, thermal and RF sensors with onboard AI processing and is the first of a planned 10-satellite Altair constellation for environmental monitoring, disaster response, maritime awareness and infrastructure assessment.
why it matters
Altair-1 is the UAE's first commercial AI-enabled EO satellite built domestically, positioning Orbitworks as a new sovereign-capable EO manufacturer in a region increasingly investing in domestic satellite production.
