what happened

Star Catcher Industries and Aethero announced a power purchase agreement on August 24 under which Aethero, a space-rated computing company, will draw on-demand power from the forthcoming Star Catcher Network rather than sizing its spacecraft around peak power needs, per the companies' release on PR Newswire. Star Catcher said Aethero is its 10th major commercial customer, with signed agreements now representing more than $60 million in backlog; Aethero plans to deploy its NxA-ECM compute module on its Titan mission in October 2026, and Star Catcher plans its first in-space power-beaming demonstration later this year.

why it matters

Star Catcher is trying to establish wireless power beaming as shared infrastructure for orbital compute and other power-hungry payloads, the same pitch data-center operators make on the ground; a tenth signed customer and a $60 million backlog is early evidence operators are willing to buy power as a service rather than overbuild their own solar arrays, which matters most for compute-heavy customers like Aethero that would otherwise need to oversize spacecraft just to handle peak loads.
