Turkish Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacir signed the Artemis Accords on behalf of the Republic of Turkiye at NASA Headquarters in Washington on August 31, in a ceremony hosted by NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman, per NASA's own release. Turkiye is the 71st nation to join the accords. NASA noted Turkiye's first astronaut reached the ISS in 2024, a second flew a Virgin Galactic suborbital mission the same year, and the country plans to launch its first lunar mission, AYAP-1.
