Satellogic names former NGA director Whitworth as president
Satellogic promoted former NGA director Frank Whitworth from strategic advisor to president, effective immediately.
what happened
Satellogic said September 8 it named retired US Navy Vice Admiral Frank D. "Trey" Whitworth as president, effective immediately, per the company's GlobeNewswire release. Whitworth had served as Satellogic's strategic advisor since March 2026; he was director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency from June 2022 to November 2025. He reports to CEO Emiliano Kargieman and will oversee internal operations, connect mission delivery to sales and marketing, and set strategy for Satellogic's defense and intelligence product line.
why it matters
Whitworth spent 36 years in Navy and intelligence roles, including setting satellite-collection requirements as NGA director, before moving to sell imagery to that same customer base at Satellogic, per TheNextWeb. The appointment underscores commercial EO providers' continued reliance on the US defense and intelligence market and gives Satellogic a direct line to NGA's own recent leadership as it commercializes its new Merlin maritime-intelligence constellation.
