Korean Air and Asiana roll out free Starlink Wi-Fi from Sept. 15
SpaceX · Korean Air · Asiana Airlines
Korean Air and Asiana will offer free Starlink in-flight Wi-Fi from Sept. 15, East Asia's first full-service-carrier rollout.

what happened
Korean Air and Asiana Airlines said Sept. 11 they will launch free Starlink-based in-flight Wi-Fi on Sept. 15, per Seoul Economic Daily and SBS. Korean Air starts on four retrofitted aircraft (three A350-900s, one 777-300ER) and plans to cover most of its fleet by the end of 2027; Asiana starts on ten aircraft (nine A350-900s, one A330-300) and will expand sequentially. Passengers connect via the airline's in-flight Wi-Fi portal using their name and seat number and must watch an advertisement; internet voice and video calls and social-media livestreaming will be restricted.
why it matters
Korean Air, merged with Asiana since 2024, becomes the first full-service carrier in East Asia to offer free Starlink Wi-Fi, a competitive marker for SpaceX's aviation connectivity business as it expands into a region where legacy carriers have been slower than European and Middle Eastern rivals to retrofit fleets.
