ST Engineering iDirect wins Datacom cloud ground-system deal for Asia Pacific
ST Engineering iDirect · Datacom
Datacom will use ST Engineering iDirect's Intuition ground system to offer cloud-native satellite services across Asia Pacific.

what happened
ST Engineering iDirect said Sept. 14 that satellite network integrator Datacom signed a contract to deploy its Intuition ground system, delivering cloud-native ground services for satellite operators across the Asia Pacific region, per ST Engineering iDirect's own release. Under the deal, ST Engineering iDirect will handle hardware procurement, full lifecycle services, and ground-segment integration for Datacom, which accesses Intuition under a subscription model; initial deployment focuses on maritime terminals with roaming between existing and Intuition networks. ST Engineering iDirect CEO Sridhar Kuppanna said Intuition gives Datacom "a cloud-native foundation that unlocks immediate efficiency gains, faster service activation, and flexibility," and Datacom System International CEO Boris Ng said the move lets the company "evolve without the limitations of traditional hardware cycles." Financial terms were not disclosed.
why it matters
The deal is a data point in ground-segment vendors' shift toward subscription-based, cloud-native software rather than hardware sales, letting integrators like Datacom resell multi-orbit capacity without owning the underlying gateway infrastructure. For ST Engineering iDirect, it extends Intuition's footprint among regional satellite integrators competing for a growing multi-orbit customer base in Asia Pacific.
