Lynred to supply infrared detectors for constellr's EO constellation
Lynred · constellr
French infrared-sensor maker Lynred will supply detection technology for constellr's next-generation thermal Earth observation satellites.
what happened
Lynred and German thermal-EO operator constellr announced a partnership under which Lynred will supply infrared detectors for constellr's planned Earth observation constellation, targeting deployment starting in 2028 with several dozen satellites over the following years, per Military Aerospace and Electronics Media. The companies said the work aims to improve spatial resolution, swath width and revisit frequency while keeping the resulting sensors practical to deploy at commercial-constellation scale; constellr CEO Max Gulde said the goal is "combining Europe's best critical technologies with the ability to deploy them at commercial scale." No contract value was disclosed.
why it matters
Thermal-infrared EO is a smaller, less-proliferated modality than optical or SAR; locking in a European detector supplier ahead of a multi-dozen-satellite build gives constellr a domestic supply chain for a constellation aimed at both commercial and institutional (defence, critical-infrastructure, energy) customers.
