SpaceX · Space Cargo Unlimited
Space Cargo Unlimited has booked a third of Starfall's capacity and expects to reach half by year-end, per Payload.

Payload is a distinct trade source from the mainstream Reuters lead, so requesting corroboration_2plus.
what happened
SpaceX's Starfall orbital-return business signed European mission integrator Space Cargo Unlimited as its first customer, per Reuters. Space Cargo plans to fly its BentoBox microgravity research platform inside a Starfall capsule on Starship's first commercial mission in 2028, and says it intends to book further missions as an integrator for other customers. Space Cargo CEO Nicolas Gaume told Payload the company has already sold one-third of Starfall's 1,000-kilogram capacity and expects to have customers locked in for half of the vehicle by the end of the year, driven by pharmaceutical companies and researchers pursuing microgravity drug discovery. Gaume said Space Cargo also holds bookings on other reentry vehicles, including seven flights on ATMOS Space Cargo's Phoenix, a mission on Dassault's VORTEX, a mission on ElevationSpace's ELS-R, and a mission on ESA's Space Rider spaceplane, and is developing its own reentry vehicle, REV1, with Thales Alenia Space, based on ESA's Space Rider design. Space Cargo currently flies about 200 kilograms per mission and expects Starfall and Starship to expand that to multiple tons.
why it matters
The deal is an early, named data point on demand for SpaceX's new orbital-return service, which SpaceNews has reported puts SpaceX in direct competition with dedicated reentry-capsule startups such as Varda, Inversion Space, and ATMOS even as it also serves as their potential launch supplier. A European integrator already booking a third of Starfall's capacity, while also spreading bookings across rival reentry vehicles, signals the in-space-manufacturing market is starting to treat capsule capacity as a scarce resource worth diversifying across suppliers, not just a SpaceX demo.
