Telesat signs global ground-segment deal with SatPort Infrastructure
Telesat's own release: SatPort Infrastructure will build and host Lightspeed landing stations worldwide under a new build-to-suit agreement.
what happened
Telesat LEO ULC and SatPort Infrastructure signed a global Master Services Agreement for SatPort to develop, build and host landing stations supporting the Telesat Lightspeed constellation, per Telesat's Sept. 15 release from Paris. The build-to-suit model converts ground-segment capital spending into an operating cost while Telesat retains ownership, control and operation of the network elements; the framework is designed to meet sovereign and in-country data-landing requirements through a non-exclusive, carrier-neutral, multi-tenant infrastructure model. Guggenheim Securities served as Telesat's financial adviser on the deal. Neither company disclosed the number of sites or financial terms.
why it matters
Outsourcing landing-station construction to a specialist infrastructure builder lets Telesat scale Lightspeed's ground network to meet sovereign data-residency demands without carrying the capex itself, a model other ground-segment vendors and rival LEO operators building out their own landing-station networks will watch.
