Satrec Initiative to build optical satellites for Hanwha's SAR fleet
Satrec Initiative · Hanwha Systems
Satrec Initiative will build four 10-centimeter-class optical satellites to complement parent Hanwha's 64-satellite SAR constellation.

what happened
Satrec Initiative said it is working with parent company Hanwha Systems to build and launch four optical satellites capable of 10-centimeter-class imagery, operating below 400 kilometers, to complement the 64-satellite SAR constellation Hanwha announced in July that targets 30-minute revisit by 2031. Hanwha will first test the very-low orbit near 500 kilometers before lowering incrementally; Satrec's current SpaceEye-T satellite images at 25-centimeter resolution.
why it matters
10-centimeter-class resolution from very-low orbit would beat the roughly 20-25 centimeter standard Airbus, Vantor and other EO operators are still targeting for their next-generation systems, and pairing it with a 30-minute-revisit SAR fleet and in-house AI analytics positions Hanwha to sell a combined all-weather, near-real-time defense and intelligence data product rather than raw imagery alone.
