Kongsberg signs Arctic ISR and Lightspeed connectivity pacts with MDA Space, Telesat

Kongsberg Canada signed an MOU with MDA Space and an LOI with Telesat on Arctic ISR and Lightspeed connectivity for defence use.

what happened
Kongsberg Canada signed a memorandum of understanding with MDA Space on September 21 to explore joint space and defence projects and technical cooperation, and a separate letter of intent with Telesat LEO to evaluate integrating the Telesat Lightspeed low-earth-orbit satellite network into Kongsberg defence platforms for secure, resilient, low-latency military connectivity, per Telesat's own release. SpaceQ reported the MDA Space agreement centers on intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities focused on monitoring Arctic waters. Neither agreement discloses a dollar figure. The signings followed Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store's September 20 visit to Ottawa, which produced a wider Canada-Norway space and defence cooperation agreement, per SpaceQ.
why it matters
The deals extend Kongsberg's Canadian footprint beyond its existing NordSpace and Kepler Communications partnerships and put Telesat's still-deploying Lightspeed constellation in front of a defence-connectivity customer before commercial service is fully online. For MDA Space, an ISR-focused MOU with a NATO-ally defence contractor is a step toward recurring services work alongside its existing satellite-manufacturing contracts, though neither agreement is yet a signed contract.
