human-spaceflight
Côte d'Ivoire signed the Artemis Accords in Abidjan, becoming the 75th signatory and the ninth African nation to join.

what happened
Côte d'Ivoire's Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Adama Diawara signed the Artemis Accords on behalf of the country in Abidjan on September 24, during the Africa Space Expo ASPEX 2026, per NASA's own release. Côte d'Ivoire is the 75th nation to join the accords and, per Behind The Black, the ninth African nation to do so.
why it matters
Accession itself carries no contract, but NASA has used it as a prerequisite gating partner access to lunar-surface and CLPS-adjacent opportunities. Côte d'Ivoire established its own Space Agency in 2025 to coordinate Earth observation, space weather, navigation and communications efforts, per NASA, positioning it to pursue Artemis-aligned cooperation in those areas.
