what happened

Canada Rocket Company (CRC) said it will invest C$30 million to build the Jeremy Hansen Test Facility on 50 acres leased from the Greater London International Airport Authority in London, Ontario, per NASASpaceflight.com. The site will include up to three vertical and horizontal stands capable of static-firing engines producing more than 1 meganewton of thrust, plus a 12,000-square-foot office and shop building, and CRC expects it to be fully operational by 2028. CRC is developing a reusable medium-lift rocket powered by its own E-1 methalox engine, capable of delivering up to 12,500 kg to sun-synchronous orbit, and expects the site to create about 40 jobs within 18 months, per BetaKit.

why it matters

The facility is a concrete infrastructure step in Canada's push for sovereign launch capability: the government awarded CRC, NordSpace and Reaction Dynamics light-lift development funding this spring amid strained US-Canada trade relations, per Ars Technica. For Canadian government and commercial payload customers, it signals a domestic medium-lift launch option is a 2028 target, not an imminent capability.
