updates

  • 2026-10-10ICEYE's own release on the partnership adds a usage track record: a dozen-plus flood events and 100+ wildfire incidents monitored, including an August Washington state mission, per the company.

what happened

California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced an agreement between the California Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) and ICEYE on October 6, alongside the reopening of Cal OES's modernized State Operations Center in Mather, per the governor's own release. The agreement gives Cal OES and all California state agencies access to ICEYE's satellite data and services subscription, covering its Flood Solutions and Wildfire Insights products, for near-real-time disaster assessment through cloud cover, smoke or darkness; Cal OES has used ICEYE's flood and wildfire products since being onboarded in February, per Via Satellite, which an ICEYE spokesperson confirmed now covers all state agencies. Neither the governor's office nor ICEYE disclosed the subscription's cost or contract term. ICEYE's own October 8 release on the partnership said Cal OES has used the tools to monitor more than a dozen major flood events and over 100 wildfire incidents in California, including a three-week Washington state wildfire response mission in August, and credited a 2025 Los Angeles fires FEMA collaboration as an earlier proof point; ICEYE Vice President of Government Solutions Andy Read said "Cal OES is not shy about using new technology."

why it matters

A statewide, all-agency rollout is a larger commitment than ICEYE's prior California OES pilot and signals SAR disaster-intelligence subscriptions are moving from single-agency trials to standard state emergency-management infrastructure, a reference account other US states' emergency agencies will weigh when evaluating similar satellite-data subscriptions.
