BlackSky extends HEO imaging deal to seven-figure Gen-3 contract

BlackSky and HEO extended their space-domain-awareness partnership into a seven-figure annual contract adding Gen-3 imagery.
what happened
BlackSky said it extended its Non-Earth Imaging agreement with HEO, which tracks and analyzes objects in orbit, into a seven-figure annual contract now entering its third year, up from an initial six-figure pilot, per its press release. The expansion adds access to BlackSky's next-generation Gen-3 very-high-resolution imagery alongside its existing Gen-2 constellation for HEO's Inspect platform, which automates tasking-to-delivery and lets customers generate analytics reports, identify subsystems, and detect anomalies on orbiting objects. BlackSky CEO Brian O'Toole said the partnership "reflects the rapid evolution of non-Earth imagery from a specialized proof-of-concept into a critical component of mainstream space domain awareness," and HEO CEO Will Crowe said combining BlackSky's constellation with HEO's software lets customers "unlock more value from existing space infrastructure." Payload reported the deal adds Gen-3's 35-centimeter imagery on top of Gen-2's one-meter resolution and that HEO operates software against imagery from 50-plus sensors on orbit.
why it matters
Non-Earth imaging, photographing satellites and spacecraft rather than the ground, is still a nascent commercial line, and a renewal that grows year over year and adds BlackSky's newest imaging tier is a concrete data point that government and commercial space-domain-awareness buyers are treating it as a recurring budget item rather than a one-off demo. For other EO operators eyeing the same market, it is a sign of what a mature NEI contract's size and cadence look like.
