Filtronic landed a record $68.1 million SpaceX order and its first GEO satellite contract, per an Oct. 30 trading update.
what happened
UK radio-frequency component maker Filtronic said in an Oct. 30 AGM trading update that it secured a $68.1 million order from SpaceX in early October for Cerus E-band gallium nitride solid-state power amplifiers, the company's largest order to date, expected to be fulfilled mainly in FY2028, per Yahoo Finance UK. The same update disclosed Filtronic's first contract with a US satellite manufacturer operating geostationary satellites, a $0.3 million Ka-band development award with expected follow-on production orders, two further US satellite-customer contracts worth $16.0 million combined, and three UK defence radar contracts worth £2.1 million, per AskTraders.
why it matters
The SpaceX order confirms Filtronic as a qualified GaN amplifier supplier for Starlink at a record contract size for the company, and the new GEO win signals it is starting to diversify into other satellite manufacturers' Ka-band hardware; component suppliers and competing RF vendors should note SpaceX's order pace is still Filtronic's dominant revenue driver even as its order book broadens.
