Blue Origin pushes New Glenn's return to flight to January 2027
A slower-than-planned pad rebuild pushes Blue Origin's next New Glenn launch about 10 days past its year-end target.
what happened
Blue Origin CEO Dave Limp told employees in a memo that the company's next New Glenn launch, NG-4.1, is now targeted for January 2027, about 10 days later than its previous end-of-year target, per Reuters and CNBC. Limp attributed the slip to continued rebuilding of the Cape Canaveral launch pad destroyed in the May 28 static-fire explosion, worsened by poor summer weather at the Cape. "Rebuilding at this pace hasn't been easy," Limp said, while noting the team completed pad repairs in six months that many expected would take years.
why it matters
New Glenn has not flown since the pad explosion grounded it in May, leaving Blue Origin's only orbital vehicle sidelined while competitors keep flying. Every added month without a launch delays the backlog of GEO, lunar, and national-security payloads already booked on the rocket, NG-4.1 included.
