Orca Aerospace lands up to $20 million deal for Orbital's satellite autonomy software
Orca Aerospace · Orbital · Reflex Aerospace
Orca Aerospace will supply autonomous-navigation software for Orbital's satellite data-center fleet in a deal worth up to $20 million.

what happened
Orca Aerospace signed a letter of intent worth up to $20 million with Orbital to run its autonomous-navigation software on Orbital's planned satellite fleet, Payload reported in a November 5 exclusive. Under the deal, Orbital pays Orca an integration fee plus a per-satellite license fee; the software is slated to fly on Orbital-1 in 2028, with possible early testing on Orbital's July 2027 Pathfinder mission, and will integrate with the flight software of Orbital's bus partner, Reflex Aerospace.
why it matters
Autonomous collision-avoidance and fault handling let an operator run a large fleet, like Orbital's planned data-center constellation, without a correspondingly large ground-operations team. A software supplier landing a per-satellite licensing structure this early in a constellation's life is a template other autonomy vendors will look to replicate.
