Firefly Aerospace acquires vision-navigation firm Space-ng for its landers and Elytra
Firefly Aerospace · Space-ng
The Blue Ghost descent-navigation supplier joins Firefly; no deal terms were disclosed in the announcement.
what happened
Firefly Aerospace announced the acquisition of Space-ng, a developer of AI-powered vision navigation and autonomous guidance systems whose software flew on Blue Ghost Mission 1, where Firefly says it enabled two autonomous hazard-avoidance maneuvers and the touchdown in Mare Crisium. Firefly says Space-ng brings spacecraft cameras and AI compute hardware for space domain awareness, optical navigation, rendezvous and proximity operations, and GPS-independent docking, to be integrated across its Blue Ghost landers and Elytra orbital vehicles; no purchase terms were stated.
why it matters
Firefly is vertically integrating the sensing-and-autonomy stack it previously bought as a supplier, right as autonomous rendezvous and non-GPS navigation become procurement requirements in national-security space. Competing lander and orbital-vehicle programs lose access to an independent supplier whose flight heritage was proven on the Moon.
