what happened

Rocket Factory Augsburg said July 28 that it found "an issue with the vehicle" during pressurization testing ahead of a planned hot-fire test at SaxaVord Spaceport, and has de-stacked RFA ONE's three stages to investigate and take corrective action, per Shetland News: "After a successful week of our test campaign pressuring the flight vehicle for the first time in preparation for the hot fire test of RFA ONE, an issue was encountered with the vehicle. We have made the decision to de-stack the vehicle in order to investigate and take corrective action where required." The company has not disclosed the nature of the issue. It is not yet known whether the delay will still allow RFA to launch within the five-week window opening August 10 that SaxaVord granted on July 7.

why it matters

A successful flight would be the first orbital launch from UK soil and Western Europe's first new small-launcher to reach orbit since Ariane 6's debut, a marker European commercial-launch customers have waited years for after 2024's static-fire setback. Every slipped window adds to the credibility gap smallsat operators already voice about non-SpaceX launch access.
