what happened

Iridium announced commercial availability of its PNT ASIC, an 8-by-8-millimeter chip delivering cryptographically secured timing and location data via one-way bursts from the Iridium satellite network for use when GPS/GNSS signals are jammed, spoofed, or unavailable. Iridium said more than 150 organizations across maritime, autonomous systems, aviation, and telecom have expressed interest since the chip's October 2025 unveiling, and named partners Solace Communications and Skyband Systems are integrating it into their products.

why it matters

PNT resilience is becoming a procurement requirement for critical-infrastructure and defense buyers wary of GPS jamming and spoofing. A commercially available chip, rather than a bespoke receiver, lowers the integration bar for device makers and gives Iridium a new hardware-attach product line independent of its pending acquisition by Rocket Lab.
