Arianespace launched Ariane 6 flight VA270 from Europe's Spaceport in French Guiana on Aug. 27, 2026 at 20:11 UTC, carrying EUMETSAT's MTG-I2 weather satellite on the vehicle's first flight to geostationary transfer orbit, per ESA; it was Ariane 6's ninth flight overall. MTG-I2 is the second Meteosat Third Generation Imager satellite, completing the three-satellite MTG family that will deliver atmospheric imagery over Europe and northern Africa every 2.5 minutes using its Flexible Combined Imager and Lightning Imager instruments from geostationary orbit at 36,000 km altitude, per ESA. ESA Director of Earth Observation Programmes Simonetta Cheli said MTG-I2 "brings advanced satellite technology that will improve climate monitoring and weather forecasts over Europe," per ESA.
