what happened

The British government and Space Florida, Florida's aerospace finance and development authority, each committed $200,000 to support joint research, innovation and commercialization projects, per SpaceNews. The UK Space Agency and Space Florida signed a memorandum of understanding on July 20 at the Farnborough International Airshow, the first funding partnership under Space Florida's Florida International Aerospace Innovation Fund, established last year. Applications open this fall for funding disbursed in 2027; eligible projects must involve a Florida-based aerospace company and an international partner with clear commercialization potential.

why it matters

The fund gives Florida-based space companies a co-funded route into UK partnerships before any project is actually selected, and gives the UK Space Agency another bilateral channel, alongside its C-LEO programme, for building commercial ties ahead of this fall's applications.
