Impulse Space unveils Electra electric propulsion system

Impulse Space detailed its first electric propulsion system, called Electra, on July 28, per Via Satellite and SatNews. The company said it designed, built, and tested the thruster in about six months at its Redondo Beach facility and is now qualifying flight units for integration with its Mira spacecraft. SatNews reported the system can offload up to 50% of the fuel capacity traditionally reserved in chemical propulsion systems. Electra is set for its first in-space demonstration on Impulse's GEO Express 1 mission, part of its GEO rideshare program, flying on the Caravan 1 mission next year.
