Kall Morris Inc. tested its REACCH (Responsive Engaging Arms for Captive Care and Handling) system aboard the International Space Station across six sessions over five months, running 172 capture trials on a free-flying Astrobee robot, per Payload and the ISS National Lab. The tentacle-like arms use gecko-inspired adhesive pads to grip uncooperative objects without full enclosure; per the ISS National Lab, the system performed well overall, though textured or slightly compliant surfaces captured better than hard, slick ones.

why it matters

REACCH targets satellite life-extension and debris-removal missions, a capability commercial operators and insurers need as more satellites reach end of life without native docking hardware. Kall Morris says its next steps are an adhesive-durability test on the ISS exterior via MISSE and a real deorbiting mission on its Laelaps spacecraft, which could fly as soon as 2027.
