Endeavor Optical Networks raises $10.75 million to build laser MEO network
Endeavor Optical Networks
A new startup wants laser-linked MEO satellites to compete with subsea cables on long-haul data routes.

what happened
Endeavor Optical Networks emerged from stealth on August 4 with $10.75 million in seed funding led by General Catalyst and Andreessen Horowitz, per Via Satellite and TechCrunch. Founded by CEO Charlie Horowitz (a former Apex Space employee) and CTO Tyler Presser (formerly of Advanced Space), the company plans a network of about 20 satellites in medium Earth orbit that relay data by laser between ground stations on different continents, an architecture it calls an 'optical bent pipe.' TechCrunch reports the company targets 2.4 terabits per second of throughput, with a demonstration satellite planned for late 2027.
why it matters
EON is positioning its network as an alternative to undersea fiber for long-haul intercontinental data, starting with routes subsea cables serve poorly, such as France-Australia and Africa-South America links. If the optical MEO relay delivers the claimed capacity, it introduces a new category of competitor for hyperscalers and telecom operators tied to cable consortia, and gives CDNs and AI labs another latency and resilience option for cross-ocean traffic.
