what happened

Proteus Space named Maj. Gen. Kim Crider (USAF, Ret.), the Space Force's first Chief Technology and Innovation Officer and the Air Force's first Chief Data Officer, to its board of directors, the company said Aug. 11. Crider had served on Proteus's advisory board since 2023.

why it matters

Crider oversaw a $2.5 billion Space Force science-and-technology portfolio and a $750 million digital-services and cybersecurity portfolio before leaving government; her move to Proteus's board is a commercial-access signal for a company selling automated digital-engineering tools for national security spacecraft.
