what happened

CesiumAstro announced on August 12 that it acquired Jariet Technologies, a fabless mmWave RF System-on-Chip semiconductor company based in Redondo Beach, California, for an undisclosed sum. Jariet, which has about 100 employees across the US and Switzerland, becomes a wholly owned CesiumAstro subsidiary and continues serving its existing SATCOM, electronic warfare, and radar customers.

why it matters

CesiumAstro says the deal brings semiconductor design in-house, giving it control over performance from the RF front end through the full mission system for its planned Synchronicity communications constellation. It is the latest step in a vertical-integration push among satcom manufacturers looking to cut supply-chain dependence on outside chipmakers.
