CNES and EO analytics firm Kayrros put a satellite-and-AI wildfire detection platform into daily use at over 40 French fire services.

CNES announced on August 20 that FireWatch, a satellite-and-AI wildfire detection and monitoring platform built by Kayrros in consortium with SERTIT (University of Strasbourg) with France 2030 government funding of "several million euros," is now in its first full operational demonstration season. France's civil-security directorate (DGSCGC) said more than 40 departmental fire and rescue services (SDIS) use the platform daily; Kayrros says it combines data from the Meteosat Third Generation and Copernicus Sentinel-2/Sentinel-3 satellites to detect fire hotspots in about ten minutes and simulate fire spread.
