Brooklyn startup Beyond Reach Labs unveiled Flarewing, a three-size deployable solar array system it plans to start qualifying by year end.

Beyond Reach Labs unveiled Flarewing, its first commercial deployable solar array system, per Payload and the company's own site. The patent-pending system folds flat for launch and holds its rigidity once deployed. Flarewing-S has a 9 kg mass, stows to 1m x 25cm x 8cm, and deploys to 30 square meters generating up to 8 kW; Flarewing-M stows about three times larger for a 180 square meter, 55 kW array; Flarewing-L stows to 6m x 29cm x 13cm and deploys to 625 square meters generating up to 200 kW. Beyond Reach Labs, which raised a $10 million seed round in July, expects to ground-qualify Flarewing-S by the end of the year and start integrating it onto customer spacecraft in early 2027, with Flarewing-M and Flarewing-L qualifying in 2027.
why it matters
The product line targets the power bottleneck facing in-space data centers and commercial space stations, which need hundreds of kilowatts that current deployable arrays struggle to deliver; if Flarewing-L's 200 kW, 625 square meter class qualifies on schedule, it would give power-hungry spacecraft designers, including orbital-compute ventures like Starcloud, a new supplier option beyond incumbent solar-array makers.
