Kongsberg will add three more satellites to its N3X maritime surveillance constellation in early 2027, doubling the network from three to six, per Defence Industry Europe and Marine Link. The first three N3X satellites, launched in 2025, carry an Automatic Identification System receiver and passive radio-frequency sensors that let operators detect vessels without transponders, identify AIS spoofing, and track other unusual maritime activity. Kongsberg owns all six satellites and operates N3X as a dual-use system serving the Norwegian Armed Forces, the Norwegian Coastal Administration, the Directorate of Fisheries, and Norwegian Customs, with surplus capacity shared with allied countries. Colonel John-Arild Bodding, commander of the Norwegian Armed Forces Space Operations Center, said "the operational results achieved with the first three satellites have confirmed the value of space-based maritime surveillance as an important component of our situational awareness capabilities."
