what happened

Redwire and Luxembourg-based Edge Aerospace announced a licensing agreement Aug. 25 at the Small Satellite Conference under which Redwire will manufacture Edge Aerospace's space-qualified data processing units and network switches in the US, per Via Satellite. Redwire will produce the hardware at its Marlborough, Massachusetts facility, expects to build hundreds of units annually, and plans first deliveries in Q1 2027. Redwire's Don Wesson said current processor lead times run 18 months to two years, which the partnership aims to shorten.

why it matters

In-space computing demand, particularly from space domain awareness operators needing onboard processing, is running into a supply bottleneck on lead times. A US manufacturing source for Edge Aerospace's data processing units shortens the wait for customers and gives Redwire another recurring hardware line beyond its own products.
