OSC's acting TraCSS program manager says the space-traffic system remains in pilot mode and commercial SSA data purchases stay on hold.

Ethan Baumann, TraCSS's acting program manager, said at an Aug. 26 satellite owner/operator forum at the Small Satellite Conference that the Office of Space Commerce's Traffic Coordination System for Space has onboarded more than 70 satellite owners and operators and more than 10 nations but still cannot commit to an exit date from its pilot phase, citing budget uncertainty, per Via Satellite. Baumann said OSC has "been consistently funded by Congress the last few years" and hopes that continues in FY2027, and said commercial SSA data purchases are on hold for the foreseeable future while the system runs on DoD catalog data and pilot-participant ephemerides, though OSC is talking with commercial providers about eventually incorporating their data.
