what happened

Elon Musk posted on X on Aug. 27 that SpaceX will offer Starlink at half price for residents in the neighborhood of Starbase Louisiana, linking to a new Starlink support page. Per Yahoo Finance's direct reporting of the page and post, the Residential 100 Mbps, 200 Mbps and Max plans drop from $55, $85 and $130 a month to $27.50, $42.50 and $65; new customers pay no upfront hardware cost, the discount applies automatically to eligible addresses in Vermilion Parish, and it continues as long as the service address stays in the eligible area. SpaceX described the offer as a benefit for its "neighbors on Louisiana's Gulf Coast," per KADN.

why it matters

The discount is a community-relations follow-on to SpaceX's Aug. 25 announcement of the $100 billion Starbase Louisiana spaceport on Vermilion Parish marshland, not a change to Starlink's national pricing or product line. It is a small, geographically bounded data point on how SpaceX manages local goodwill around its launch-site expansions.
