what happened

Israel's ImageSat International (ISI) unveiled EROS NOVA, a satellite combining high-resolution optical imaging, infrared sensing and video collection at a native resolution of 25 centimeters, a tier ISI calls Very-Very-High-Resolution. The satellite carries onboard AI and processing hardware that ISI says can analyze selected data in orbit rather than waiting for a full downlink, joining ISI's existing RUNNER and KNIGHT platforms. CEO Noam Segal said EROS NOVA "represents the next generation of space-based reconnaissance," combining imaging, sensor diversity and AI on one platform, per esut.de. No launch date was given.

why it matters

Onboard tasking and prioritization is the feature commercial and defense EO buyers increasingly ask for, shrinking the time between collection and an actionable image without waiting on ground-segment processing. If EROS NOVA reaches orbit and performs as described, it pushes ISI's resolution and latency claims into the same tier as the highest-end commercial and government EO providers, sharpening competition for very-high-resolution defense and intelligence contracts.
