Greece names Adrianos Golemis as its first astronaut for 2027 Vast ISS mission
ESA signed on Greece's behalf for Vast to fly flight surgeon Adrianos Golemis to the ISS in 2027 as the country's first astronaut.

what happened
The European Space Agency signed an agreement on behalf of Greece for Vast to fly ESA flight surgeon Adrianos Golemis to the International Space Station as Greece's first astronaut, announced by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and French President Emmanuel Macron at the Paris International Space Summit, per TheNextWeb and Karmactive. The mission, Vast-PAM-1, the sixth private astronaut mission to the ISS, is planned for 2027 on a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft launched on a Falcon 9, joining already-booked ESA astronaut Thomas Pesquet as commander and ESA project astronaut Ales Svoboda of the Czech Republic as pilot; Vast previously agreed to fly Svoboda on the same mission. Golemis's flight is subject to approval by the ISS partners' Multilateral Crew Operations Panel, and he begins training with Vast, SpaceX and NASA teams this month. Neither ESA nor Vast disclosed the seat's cost.
why it matters
The deal gives Vast, known mainly for its own Haven-1 station plans, a third national astronaut seat sold on the same private mission, extending its ISS-related business beyond station development and putting it in more direct competition with Axiom Space's national-astronaut bookings.
