MDA Space unveils Aurora Black defense-focused satellite communications line
MDA Space extended its Aurora satellite line with a defense-focused variant offering anti-jamming and anti-spoofing protection.

what happened
MDA Space unveiled MDA Aurora Black, a defense-focused extension of its Aurora software-defined satellite product line for government and military customers, the company said Sept. 10, per a company release distributed on PR Newswire. Aurora Black adds onboard anti-jamming capability, resistance to GPS spoofing, and perimeter and proximity sensing across MDA's existing direct-to-device and broadband Aurora product lines. MDA Space CEO Mike Greenley said defense organizations are "operating in increasingly complex and contested environments where connectivity is mission-critical."
why it matters
The launch extends MDA's software-defined satellite manufacturing, already supplying commercial direct-to-device and broadband operators, into the sovereign and defense communications market, positioning MDA against established military satcom suppliers as more governments seek secure, non-US-controlled connectivity.
