Laser Light opens supplier search for HALO optical satellite fleet
Laser Light
Per Laser Light's release: the company opened a formal RFI seeking a prime contractor for its planned all-optical HALO constellation.
what happened
Laser Light Holdings announced a Request for Information process on Sept. 14 seeking prime contractors and subsystem suppliers for its planned High Articulation Laser Optical (HALO) satellite constellation, an all-optical medium-Earth-orbit system the company says will anchor a space, terrestrial and subsea network for AI-driven connectivity demand, per the company's PRWeb release. The RFI covers the space segment (optical payload, spacecraft bus), ground segment (optical terminals, sky sensor), and satellite and network operations centers; expressions of interest are due Oct. 2, NDAs by Oct. 9, and detailed responses by Nov. 2. Laser Light says HALO could become operational within 30 to 36 months of an order.
why it matters
Laser Light has pursued an all-optical constellation since first naming Ball Aerospace as prime contractor in 2014 without reaching orbit; this RFI restarts that supplier search rather than confirming new funding or a signed contract, so it is a step toward a future order, not a capability operators can book yet.
