Vast establishes Lunar Programs division targeting NASA Moon Base
Vast is standing up a Lunar Programs division to apply its Haven space-station work to power, communications and habitats on the Moon.

what happened
Vast said Sept. 23 it is establishing a Lunar Programs division to support NASA's Moon Base ambitions, building on its commercial space-station and satellite work, per the company's own release. The division plans a phased approach: Phase 1 establishes surface access with foundational infrastructure and tech demonstrations; Phase 2 builds initial Moon Base operations and permanent surface elements; Phase 3 enables long-duration crewed presence. Planned technologies include a solar power station with energy storage and distribution, a Haven-derived lunar airlock for dust mitigation and surface operations, a multi-module habitat with life support and thermal control, and a communications and positioning constellation for lunar south pole coverage. CEO Max Haot said "Vast has the manufacturing capability, flight heritage, and technical expertise needed to help build humanity's first lunar outpost," per Payload.
why it matters
No NASA contract or dollar figure accompanies the announcement; it signals Vast is positioning its Haven-1 space-station manufacturing base to compete for future Moon Base work as NASA moves toward commercial lunar-surface infrastructure, alongside CLPS providers and Artemis primes already active there.
