Viasat wins $42 million Marine Corps satcom task order
Viasat's Inmarsat Government unit won a $42 million initial task order under its $307 million Marine Corps satcom IDIQ.

what happened
Viasat subsidiary Inmarsat Government won a $42 million initial task order under the Marine Enterprise Commercial Satcom Satellite Services (MECS2) contract, a seven-year IDIQ with a $307 million ceiling awarded by the U.S. Space Force's Commercial Satellite Communications Office, the company said Sept. 23. Viasat will deliver L-, Ku- and Ka-band satcom to the Marine Corps via its own and partner-provider satellites, including its now fully operational ViaSat-3 constellation, plus bandwidth management, terminal inventory management, network monitoring and cybersecurity support.
why it matters
The task order converts Viasat's existing Marine Corps relationship (a contract potentially worth up to $307 million awarded in May) into a first funded increment, keeping the operator as the incumbent multi-orbit managed-services provider for expeditionary Marine units as the Pentagon leans further on commercial multi-orbit satcom.
