SSC Space and Saab sign MoU on Swedish defense-space cooperation
SSC Space · Saab
SSC Space and Saab agreed to explore combining SSC's ground and launch infrastructure with Saab's defense systems for Sweden.

what happened
SSC Space and Saab announced a memorandum of understanding Sept. 24 to explore cooperation on space and Multi-Domain Operations (MDO), including using SSC's Esrange Space Center for testing, demonstration, launch and operations. Under the MoU, Saab would act as system integrator combining SSC Space's ground-station network, launch and early-orbit-phase services and mission engineering with a wider partner ecosystem, to deliver what the companies called sovereign, end-to-end space capabilities for Sweden and Europe as part of Saab-coordinated MDO solutions.
why it matters
The MoU is exploratory and names no contract value, but it signals Sweden's push to fold its existing spaceport and launch infrastructure at Esrange into national defense planning through a systems integrator, a pattern other European governments are also following as they seek less reliance on foreign-owned space capabilities for security roles.
