Axelspace grounds 4 of 7 GRUS-3 satellites after communication malfunction
Axelspace
A power-amplifier fault permanently disabled downlink on 4 of Axelspace's 7 GRUS-3 satellites; commercial ops now target February 2027.

what happened
Axelspace said Sept. 29 that four of the seven GRUS-3 Earth observation microsatellites launched July 7 (3B, 3E, 3F and 3G) have a malfunction in the power-amplifier circuit of their high-speed communication system, and that recovering high-speed downlink on those four "is not feasible," making it difficult to bring them into commercial service, per Axelspace's own notice. The three unaffected satellites, 3A, 3C and 3D, remain in verification; Axelspace said Oct. 29 that 3C captured an image on Oct. 20 and successfully downlinked it via its high-speed communication system, and that the company now targets February 2027 to begin commercial operations with the three surviving satellites, per its own release.
why it matters
Losing more than half of a newly launched seven-satellite constellation's planned commercial capacity is a direct hit to Axelspace's AxelGlobe imaging business and delays the revenue ramp needed to support partnerships like its Airbus Defence and Space imagery deal and Saudi Arabia's NSG UP42 platform; resellers and government customers counting on GRUS-3 capacity should now plan around a three-satellite fleet arriving no earlier than February 2027 rather than the full seven.
